ARKANSAS-MISSOURI RAILROAD (AM) is a Class III railroad that operates between Monett, Missouri and Fort Smith, Arkansas. Click here to see a full system map. The rail line, originally part of the St. Louis - San Francisco Railway (also known as the "Frisco"), was built in the 1880s. The Frisco merged with Burlington Northern Railroad in 1980 and the Arkansas-Missouri Railroad acquired the line in 1986. The rail line runs through the Ozark Mountains and has many extreme slopes, tight curves and deep valleys to cross. There is also a tunnel that measures a quarter of a mile long and three trestles that span over a quarter of a mile each and are 150 feet high.

ARKANSAS-MISSOURI RAILROAD's Railroad Track Department maintains five, six and seven degree curves and up to 2.7 percent grade. The department's surfacing gang uses a 6700 Pandrol Jackson Production Tamper and a Kershaw Regulator.

The Railroad Track Department is also responsible for the installation of between 12,000 and 15,000 ties each year with two 925 Tie Inserters, two Kershaw Tie Handlers and Nordberg Spiker. On the South end of the railroad Springdale to Fort Smith track speed is 35 mph. On the North end of the track(Springdale to Monett, Missouri track speed is 49 mph.
